CHCI-ZGS Communications Scholar Intern Program

The CHCI-ZGS Communications Scholar Intern program is designed to allow junior undergraduate students to not only receive monetary support for their education, but also gain hands-on experience in a media related field through a six-week internship during summer 2016. Click here to apply!

During Summer 2016, CHCI and ZGS Communications will award up to four internships in ZGS Communication's Telemundo TV Stations in Tampa and Orlando, Florida.

There are four possible placements available. Click the links below for a full description of each internship placement:

The CHCI-ZGS Communications scholar-intern program requires a six week paid internship in which ZGS Communications directly places you in their Orlando and Tampa, FL Telemundo TV stations. If selected, you MUST complete the internship in order to receive scholarship funds. Interns are expected to work 32 hours per week for six weeks during summer 2016, and will be compensated at $12.50 per hour. 

Please Note -- You must reside in either the Orlando or Tampa, FL metropolitan area during Summer 2016 to be eligible for the scholar-intern program, as ZGS Communications and CHCI do not offer housing or transportation. Scholar-interns must have their own housing that is close enough to get themselves to work each day.

    - Two essay questions (Suggested Length: 300 words minimum; 600 words maximum)
    - Resume (1-2 pages)
    - Complete copy of 2014-2015 Student Aid Report (SAR) with Expected Family Contribution (EFC) number clearly shown
  4. Legal Agreement

Eligibility Criteria
Selection as a CHCI-ZGS Communications Scholar Intern is based on a combination of the following criteria:

  • Full-time enrollment in an accredited four-year university during the period for which scholarship is requested.
    • Open to current juniors only
    • Individuals that will graduate in May/June 2016 are NOT eligible for the CHCI-ZGS Communications Scholar Intern Program
  • A declared major related to media, specifically consumer marketing, digial media, news, research, sourcing, or sports; or technical, mechanical, or electrical engineering
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Consistent, active participation in public and/or community service activities
  • Strong writing skills
  • Housing and transportation in the greater Orlando or Tampa, Florida area
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, asylees, or individuals who are lawfully authorized to work full-time without restriction for any U.S. employer and who, at the time of application, possess lawful evidence of employment authorization.

    NOTE: Individuals who are seeking consideration under the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival” (DACA)policy must possess an Employment Authorization Document at the time of application

CHCI scholarships provide recipients with a one-time scholarship of $2,500 to pursue an undergraduate degree. Scholarship awards are intended to provide assistance with tuition, room and board, textbooks, and other educational expenses associated with college enrollment.

Scholar-interns will receive their scholarship divided into two checks during the 2016-2017 school year after they have completed their internship; one check for $1,250 in the fall and one check for $1,250 in the spring. In order to recieve their checks, scholar-interns must submit a verification of full-time enrollment. CHCI manages the disbursement of the scholarships; an annual check is sent directly to recipients.
